Clubs & Groups
Handicraft Club
The Handicraft Club takes place at Walford Hall during school term times. (It is for registered blind/partially sighted people only.)
Tuesdays & Fridays 10:00–14:00
Wednesdays 10:00–12:00
Our crafts can be purchased at Walford Hall and we hold an Open Day to sell our wares early in November each year.
Our aim is to provide a social and handicraft club using experienced staff who are on hand at all times to teach basket weaving, card making and other suitable crafts in a very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. On arrival members are encouraged to socialise over a cup of tea or coffee and again later over lunch.
Regular transport to and from the club may be provided by minibus which can also accommodate a wheelchair. Alternatively members can arrange their own way to and from the hall.
Coffee/Tea is provided at 25p per cup, filled rolls served for lunch are 70p each and soup (winter only) 50p.
Subs are £2.50 per session
Raffle tickets are available at each session for 10p each. Members are encouraged to bring a small item such as biscuits or a tin of something for the raffle each week.
Young At Heart
Young At Heart group has been going since February 2009 and members have had great fun doing all sorts of activities. If you feel ‘Young At Heart’ and you think you can help yourself and others achieve something that maybe you think you cannot do because of sight loss then come and join in.
The group meets fortnightly doing a range of activities and visits/day trips such as Horse Racing at Towcester, Gosport Naval Docks, along the Gower Peninsula or a Canal Boat trip.
Social Club
This meets at Walford Hall on the 2nd Tuesday of each month between 14:00 and 16:00. There is a varied programme of speakers, entertainers, occasional bingo and an annual outing.
Ramble Group
The ramblers meet on alternate Mondays, whatever the weather, during the school term time. They use the Association’s minibus to go into the country for walks which always include a pub lunch.
Out and About
A series of small outings (typically once a month) are arranged during the year. Information is published in the newsletter. The trips are more local such as to garden centres, museums (including the REME museum at Arborfield), arboretums, Millets Farm and the lambing sheds at Rushell’s farm.
